Forest trails, beach zones and South Stack paths
Newborough's forest trails and large parts of its beach welcome dogs throughout the year. The 1.1-mile Animal Discovery Trail uses stone forest roads and uneven sandy tracks. Separate seasonal rules apply: the Blue Flag beach zone excludes dogs from 1 May to 30 September. On Ynys Llanddwyn, use short leads and marked paths from 1 April to 1 September. Check the Beach car park map and tide times; high water can cut off the island. Keep off the Cefni estuary's mud and sand.
Benllech and Cemaes have dog-free beach zones from 1 May to 30 September, with other beach areas still open to dogs. The same seasonal zoning applies at Trearddur Bay. Use the council maps and signs to find the permitted stretches, and keep dogs on leads on all three promenades.
Dogs can join you on the reserve and in Ellin's Tower, but the cafe and visitor centre admit assistance dogs only. Keep to paths with a short lead. The approach from Ellin's Tower car park to the viewpoint is level; the coastal trail is rugged and narrow. The route from the visitor centre to the tower has 25 uneven steps.

Match the cottage to your island plans
Rhosneigr and Benllech have several larger houses, while Malltraeth and Llanfechell also offer stays for two. At Chapel House, Pen-Y-Bryn and Dolwaenydd, the hot tub may not be up to temperature on your first evening.
Rhosneigr
Glanllyn Bach has RAF aircraft noise; Swyn Llyr's coastal-path access crosses a road. Ardwyn allows ten adults and four children; two dogs stay free of charge but cannot go upstairs. Its hot tub costs 200 pounds per stay. The Herun has an enclosed rear garden and low front wall; dogs cost 40 pounds each per stay. Chapel House has a terrace, balcony and outdoor shower for rinsing dogs. Its hot tub costs 200 pounds weekly, with dogs charged 45 pounds each per stay.
Benllech and Pentraeth
Y Gogarth has steep steps to its hot tub; The Sandy Bee spans three floors. Bryn Mor takes one small dog and has garden steps. Bryn Mor's hot tub is seasonal; confirm availability for your dates. Treestumps' tiered gardens and decks need supervision, as boundaries may not be secure. At Pentraeth, Morawelon takes two small pets. Its hot tub is indoors in an outbuilding; the open driveway leads to a busy road.
Rhoscolyn
Bodior Garden Cottage has an enclosed garden; a farm dog may visit. Dogs cost 45 pounds each weekly; the hot tub costs 175 pounds, plus 75 for cleaning on stays over a week. Bodior Lodge's fence may let small dogs through. It charges 45 pounds per dog and 150 for the hot tub; confirm whether each is per stay or per week. Glan Towyn's balconies and nearby water need supervision, and its boundaries may not be secure. Dogs cost 45 pounds each weekly; its hot tub costs 250 for one week or 325 for two.
Holyhead and South Stack
Bran Goesgoch offers a working-farm stay, with shared courtyard and utility space, low walls and a narrow unadopted approach. Farm noise and smells are possible. Ysbryd y Mynydd takes one dog and allows stays of six nights at most. Dogs cannot enter the downstairs bedrooms; puppies or untrained dogs must be crated. Its private hot tub costs extra, but the booking page gives conflicting amounts. Confirm the charge before paying.
Cemaes to Penysarn
Bronallt has an enclosed gravel-and-patio garden and entrance steps. Refail Fach is adults-only, with week-long bookings from Friday only; dogs stay off furniture and out of bedrooms. Daresfield's stepped garden has gaps that may let small dogs through. At Llanfechell, Farmyard House allows two small dogs or one medium dog, with a 20-pound supplement; Garden House takes one small or medium dog. Their shared estate has resident cats, and both hot tubs close at 10pm. At Penysarn, Rhos Helyg has low walls dogs may jump and a nearby pond.
Llanfaethlu and Llanfwrog
Ty Gwennol takes two small or medium dogs, but no puppies, and dogs cannot stay alone. Its fenced rear-garden section offers space outside; leads are needed beyond it, where the owners' dogs and horses share the smallholding. At Llanfwrog, Hen Penmynydd takes one small or medium dog. If yours is very small, ask the owners about the gate. Its private rear hot tub costs an extra 80 pounds.
Malltraeth and Dwyran
Carreg Rhys near Malltraeth suits two people planning Newborough outings. Its hot tub and access to it are private, while the main lawn and gardens are shared with the owners. It has steep stairs and no separate shower. At Dwyran, Cae Du takes one dog. A large pond and marsh lie within the grounds; supervise dogs outside. Its approach and stairs can be difficult. The hot tub costs 200 pounds and must be requested.
Llanfairpwll to Gwalchmai
Pen-Y-Bryn has an enclosed garden but audible A55 traffic. At Brynsiencyn, Pistyll Ddu has an enclosed rear garden beside livestock and a tight approach. Dolwaenydd's enclosed garden is not dog-proof; a public footpath passes near its hot tub, which costs 200 pounds and needs advance arrangement. Petlyns Patch at Gwalchmai has a covered hot tub, open garden and narrow approach. Nearby Plas Newydd welcomes dogs on short leads in most grounds and woodland, but not the Terraced Garden; only assistance dogs enter the house.
