The dog-friendly promise
Private hot tubs, but not always private ground
Coast, moor or towpath
Three outings with different ground underfoot
Dogs can use Northam Burrows, with care around grazing animals and wildlife. Beach access changes in summer: from 1 May to 30 September, dogs must stay north of the Sandymere bridge access point. The Blue Flag beach section to its south excludes dogs during that period.
Dartmoor's open ground is also grazing land for sheep, cattle and ponies. The National Park asks for dogs on leads, so plan a moorland outing with that in mind rather than expecting an off-lead run. Choose a route and length that suit your dog and the weather.
For flatter walking in mid-Devon, use one of the canal's access points for a short out-and-back along the surfaced towpath. Keep dogs under control, away from nesting waterbirds and out of neighbouring farmland. Dog-waste bins are provided at access points.
From the estuary to the inland farms
Find a base, then compare the outdoor space
Use these eight areas to narrow the list above. Dog limits and garden labels are on the cards; the differences here include small-dog rules, shared paddocks, extra hot tub charges and houses where the advertised capacity needs a closer look. Six stays add a dog fee: 20 pounds per dog per stay at The Orchard and Barley Meadow, 20 pounds per booking at Sea Sanctuary, and 25 pounds per dog per week at Nairn, Delmonte Lodge and The Farmhouse at Broad Downs.
Bideford and the estuary
Valise has an enclosed lawn for one small dog; Bideford's return walk is uphill. Quay Close Cottage adds a dog shower but uses public parking. Sea Sanctuary has a small, grass-free courtyard; Otters Leap's garden has escape gaps. Mallacleave House shares its drive and requires a 750-pound housekeeping bond. Pebble Ridge View has limited outdoor space and some road noise. At The Corn Tallet, the hot tub is private and pool shared. Dogs cannot enter its farm fields, and lambing runs day and night in March and April.
Littleham to Roadford
Littleham Court Cottage has internal steps and fences a large dog could jump. The estate's proposed dog-walking area is unavailable. Parnacott's paid hot tub seats seven; two bedrooms interconnect. At Strawberry Bank, dogs use the shared paddock, with leads elsewhere except private patios. Pipistrelle has open bedroom layouts and low beams. Lily and Meadow Lodge have open grounds. Lily takes Friday-to-Friday bookings in July-September; Meadow Lodge excludes Sunday arrivals and requires five nights from mid-July through August.
Braunton to North Molton
Nairn has lawn steps and a pond needing supervision; its hot tub may still be reheating on arrival. At 65 Channel View, entrance and garden steps rule out level access. Inland, The Hawthorns has an enclosed lawn, while Oak Cottage has decking, steep stairs and three floors. Oak's lower-ground bedroom can get condensation. Both North Molton cottages take one dog and share games facilities. Neither accepts Sunday arrivals; school-summer bookings run Saturday to Saturday.
Around Dartmoor
Butterdon Barn has an enclosed lawn and slow WiFi. The Orchard has a covered courtyard hot tub and separate enclosed lawn; small dogs can slip through Barley Meadow's gate. Both offer paid day kennels by arrangement. Two Moors Shepherds Hut has a wood-fired hot tub and a bed you fold down yourself. It takes Friday arrivals only; its meadow gate has a gap, and dogs cannot stay alone. Wood for the first two or three days is included; after that, buy logs locally.
Exeter and Crediton
Posbury Lodge has an enclosed garden; at Culver Court Cottage, dogs need leads near livestock. Spicery Barn Loft and Spicery are adults-only: the Loft has outside steps, while Spicery has lakes needing supervision. Springwell Lodge has first-floor access and some road noise; dogs cannot stay alone. Nelli Lodge pairs a wood-fired hot tub with an enclosed paddock. At Shamrock, water pressure can drop when other appliances run.
Mid-Devon countryside
Lake View's hot tub costs 60 pounds and must be requested when booking. Orchard Retreat has open grounds and roaming owner dogs. Hope House Stables has a dog-exercise lawn. Fishermen's Cottage uses a sofa bed to sleep eight; its river is unfenced and dogs stay downstairs. At Ash Thomas, 2 Pigsfoot Cottages has an enclosed garden; Pigsfoot Lodge lacks a full entrance gate. Both have daily hot tub checks and Monday/Friday short-break starts. The Farm Office requires leads on the farm; its hot tub may not be warm on the first night.
Honiton to Uplyme
Southcott Farm Cottage takes Monday or Friday arrivals only in April-September. Quantock Barn has open grounds beside livestock. Nuthatch near Stockland accepts adults and babes in arms only, with Saturday weekly bookings in June-September. Burrows has a walled lawn and a 250-pound hot tub supplement; reheating can take time, and June-August stays are weekly. At Red House, one patio can be secured for dogs. Its twelve-person layout includes two king-size beds in one room; outdoor noise must stop after 10.30pm.
South Devon and Torbay
Little Honeynook takes one small or medium dog; its inflatable hot tub costs extra and access has three steps. Under Oak Pod allows two adults and one child under twelve, counting infants; dogs need leads on the farm. The Farmhouse at Broad Downs allows twelve adults and two under-twelves. Its hot tub needs fourteen days' notice: 250 pounds for two to four nights, 350 for five to seven. Delmonte Lodge has one parking space; its pool is advertised as heated May-September. Rowan takes seven-night bookings only, excludes under-twelves and does not allow dogs left alone.
