Coastal paths and shorter outings
Dog access changes along the route, particularly where it crosses beaches with seasonal restrictions. Choose a manageable stretch and follow the local signs. Keep your dog on a lead through livestock fields and well away from cliff edges.
Near Aberystwyth, the 1.3km Barcud Trail circles a lake without steps or stiles. Gradients reach 10%. Dogs can join you on a lead or under close control. Check Natural Resources Wales' trail notices before travelling.
For an outing in Carmarthenshire, Dinefwr allows dogs in its outer park and cafe. Keep dogs on short leads in the park. The Deer Park and boardwalk admit assistance dogs only, so choose your route using the current dog-access guidance, not just a general estate walk map.
Eight starting points
Choose a part of Wales
Use these areas to narrow the cottages, then check your chosen dates, total and any housekeeping bond. Private use does not always mean the hot tub is included in the rent or runs throughout the year; dog charges vary too.
Anglesey
Look around Rhosneigr and Benllech for an island town or village stay. The Herun in Rhosneigr has an outdoor shower and enclosed rear lawn, but a low wall at the front. It takes two dogs, charged at 40 pounds each per stay.
The Conwy coast
Llandudno and Rhos-on-Sea offer town bases. At 4 Bodnant Road in Rhos-on-Sea, one dog can use the enclosed artificial-turf garden. There are steps at the rear, so check the alternative access if needed. Stays last at least three nights and hot tub use ends at 10pm.
Mountain villages and the Llyn
Snowdonia stays include Harlech on the coast and Betws-y-Coed inland; the Llyn offers bases around Nefyn. At Bryn Aber Bach in Llangybi, two dogs have enclosed gravel-and-patio space, with bedrooms upstairs. Its owners live next door and maintain the hot tub; arrange access around your dog's needs.
Ruthin and Llangollen
Compare a Ruthin town stay with cottages in the countryside around Llangollen. Rhif Saith in Ruthin takes one dog and has an enclosed lawn and laundry room. Roadside parking comes with a permit for one car, not a reserved bay; secure the garden gate when you arrive.
Powys
Powys has small stays near Newbridge-on-Wye and larger houses around Builth Wells. Dol Blodau at Llysdinam suits two people and two dogs, with an enclosed lawn and a utility porch. Sheep graze nearby. The hot tub is emptied and cleaned between stays, so it will not be ready for early check-in.
Ceredigion
Ceredigion options include stays around Cardigan and New Quay, plus rural barns near Aberystwyth. Yr Hen Beudy near Capel Bangor has enclosed gardens, but plan to drive for dog walks. It takes one dog, with a second by arrangement.
Pembrokeshire
Pembrokeshire ranges from Tenby, Solva and Amroth on the coast to rural Lawrenny. Copybush Cottage has a large enclosed lawn for two dogs and a utility room for walking gear. The approach is single-track, with livestock fields nearby. Inside, the accommodation is split-level and there is no stairgate.
St Clears and the Vale coast
Compare Carmarthenshire stays around St Clears with the Vale of Glamorgan coast. The Byre at St Brides Major has its own enclosed lawn and shared dog-washing facilities. Farm traffic and livestock are part of the setting. Its field route to the coast includes cliff-top walking.
