The dog-friendly promise

Match the garden to your dog

Up to 2 dogs
at cottages with stated limits. Ardchyle and Schiehallion welcome dogs; confirm the number with the provider.
Multi-dog stays
5 cottages welcome two dogs. Feus takes one; a larger house does not mean a higher dog allowance.
3 of 8
have enclosed gardens: artificial turf at Maryland and lawns at Fernbank and Tayview. Tayview's garden is multi-level; check boundaries for your dog.

Time outside

Gorge paths and village strolls

Birks of Aberfeldy

The woodland circuit follows the Moness Burn above Aberfeldy, with waterfalls and steep drops into the gorge. At about 3.5km with 200m of ascent, it is more than a flat town stroll. Keep your dog close beside the drops.

Killin and the falls

The heritage trail uses village pavements and firm paths, with views of the Falls of Dochart. Watch for traffic on the stone bridge and keep off slippery rocks beside the water. The optional Manse Road loop adds a steep climb.

Access rules for dogs

Scottish access rights come with responsibilities for dogs. Keep yours in sight and under control, use a lead when uncertain and avoid approaching livestock or wildlife. Carry waste home if there is no bin.

Places to stay

Small cottages or a houseful

Compare smaller cottages with group houses and waterside stays. This page uses historic Perthshire, including Killin and nearby Ardchyle, which are now in the Stirling council area. Listed housekeeping bonds range from 200 to 1,000 pounds.

Perth and Auchterarder

Feus is the small Auchterarder option, with garden steps and low fencing. Maryland, in Aberargie near Abernethy, is single-storey. Near Methven, The Cottage offers an enclosed hot tub patio; its separate field is listed for horses, not as dog space.

St Fillans

Red Kite Lodge sleeps four at St Fillans' old railway station, with views over the hills around Loch Earn. Its wrap-around deck gives you outdoor space, but gaps and the deck gate need checking for your dog. Boot storage inside is useful after a wet walk.

Aberfeldy and Killin

Fernbank sleeps twenty in Aberfeldy; Tayview sleeps eighteen in Killin. Both span three floors with one ground-floor bedroom. Fernbank has two rooms up steep, narrow stairs. Tayview's sitting rooms are smaller than the group, though its table seats eighteen. Both have 1,000-pound housekeeping bonds, exclude hen and stag parties and limit hot tub use to 9am-9.30pm. Bed configurations need arranging at least two weeks ahead.

Beyond the towns

Ardchyle House sleeps seven outside Killin, and a burn runs through its large garden. Schiehallion House sleeps ten on a Highland Perthshire loch shore, with two jetties and a wood-fired hot tub. Keep dogs close by the water at both. Schiehallion lists a 1,000-pound bond and optional hire for another 1,000 pounds, without naming the facilities. Confirm what that hire covers.
