The dog-friendly promise
Enclosed gardens and stays for two dogs
Beyond the cottage
Morecambe's promenade, Bowland and the canal
Dogs must stay on leads on Morecambe Promenade. The North and South beaches exclude dogs from 1 May to 30 September, so a summer seafront stay does not mean access to those sands.
Bowland is sheep country, so expect livestock on countryside walks. Keep your dog on a lead and follow local access signs. Ground-nesting birds add another reason for close control, especially between March and July.
For an outing from the Earby stays, join the Leeds and Liverpool Canal at Greenberfield Locks in Barnoldswick. Towpaths welcome dogs, with short leads needed around busy locks and bridges. Keep dogs out of the canal: the Canal & River Trust does not permit them to swim in it.
Gardens, decks and house rules
Eighteen stays, with different spaces outside
Six of the seven enclosed gardens are at stays from Cleveleys up to Carnforth; elsewhere only Stable View at Bolton-by-Bowland has one. Hot tub extras and heating times vary by stay.
Overton, Morecambe and Cleveleys
Woodman Cottage at Overton sleeps four, with a warm dog-wash hose and an enclosed rear patio garden. There are steps at the entrance, sitting room and hot tub. In Morecambe, Inglemead sleeps sixteen across three floors, with an enclosed gravel courtyard and several internal level changes. Linwood at Cleveleys sleeps eight and has enclosed lawns and a patio. Its staircase to the top floor is narrow.
Covered hot tubs at Pilling
Old Bell Works is set in the owner's grounds and sleeps six, with a large enclosed garden and a hot tub on a covered patio. Its one permitted dog must stay downstairs, out of bedrooms and off soft furnishings. A gate at the bottom of the garden opens onto a field with a public footpath. Vine Cottage sleeps seven and also takes one dog, kept off beds and furniture. Its covered hot tub sits beside a garden where small-dog gaps may need panels. Discuss the gaps before arrival and supervise outside.
Capernwray and Warton near Carnforth
Boavista sleeps six above Jackdaw Quarry, with an enclosed side garden separate from its balconies. Steps, levels and quarry water need care. Request the hot tub when booking: it costs 50 pounds per stay. Arrivals are Monday or Friday; bookings within three weeks require an enquiry. Lindeth Croft at Warton sleeps two on a working farm, with the owner next door and an enclosed garden. Arrivals and departures are Monday or Friday.
Borwick's lakeside park lodges
Pine Lake View and Gerrida Lodge each sleep six at South Lakeland Leisure Village, which is in Lancashire. Each has a private hot tub on enclosed decking but no garden, and the lake is close, so supervise dogs outside. Traffic noise can reach Pine Lake View. Pool and leisure access cost extra. Pine Lake View excludes groups of more than four where everyone is under 25, plus stag and hen parties. Gerrida Lodge doesn't state a dog limit, so ask before booking.
Bolton-by-Bowland for one small dog
Stable View Cottage sleeps three, with a compact enclosed lawn and patio; the charge for its one small dog is 20 pounds per week. Horses are nearby. Ribble View and Skirden View are neighbouring four-person cottages at Bow Laithe Farm, each with its own patio and hot tub. Both restrict bookings to one small dog and require supervision at all times. Use a lead around gate gaps. The working farm has a small caravan site, and Ribble View's WiFi can be unreliable.
Chipping and Great Harwood
Cuthbert Hill Farm at Chipping sleeps twelve and takes two small-to-medium dogs. They must stay on leads outside at all times and remain downstairs, off furniture. Cats live on the farm, and all six bedrooms are upstairs. The Oaks at Great Harwood is an eight-person house for a party with one dog. Its garden has a lawn, hot-tub patio and water feature, but is not fully secure. Your dog needs supervision outside.
Larger houses at Chorley and Cliviger
Moody House Farm near Chorley sleeps ten. All bedrooms are upstairs and there is no downstairs toilet; the hot tub can take up to 24 hours to reach temperature after cleaning. Laithe House at Cliviger sleeps twelve across three floors and has a tennis court and a multilevel garden. Each house takes two dogs. Neither garden is described as fully enclosed, so supervise dogs outside. Laithe House has electric entrance gates, but ask the owner about the rest of the boundary.
The Barn and Heather Hut at Copy House Hideaway
Each Earby stay takes two adults and one small dog, with no enclosed garden. The Barn has a raised first-floor hot-tub deck. Heather Hut has a sofa bed with a full double mattress, gravel patio and wood-fired hot tub. Neither accepts weekend arrivals. Heather Hut's maximum stay is four days unless arranged; preheating and extra logs cost extra. For The Barn, the owner's direct-booking dog fee is 10 pounds daily; check the charge on your booking page.
