Forest, parkland or hill paths

Delamere Forest

Waymarked circular trails range from gentle forest roads to the climb up Old Pale. Choose a route from the Forestry England map to suit your dog's stamina. Dogs are welcome; take waste bags home, as the forest has no bins.

Tatton Park

The parkland near Knutsford welcomes dogs under close control, with leads required from 1 May to 31 July. Keep at least 50 metres from deer and keep dogs out of the water. Formal gardens allow one dog per adult, on a short lead.

Tegg's Nose

Tegg's Nose Country Park is near Macclesfield, on the edge of the hills overlooking the Cheshire Plain. The council's walking maps help you choose a route and distance before arrival. There is a pay-and-display car park; follow the dog notices on site.

Your Cheshire base

Chester, villages and farmland

Cheshire's eight stays include a Chester suburb, the Wirral and villages around Knutsford, as well as farm and Peak District settings. The areas below help you choose where to base your stay.

Mickle Trafford

Mickle Trafford Manor sleeps ten in a village outside Chester, with five en-suite bedrooms, a garden sauna and games and cinema rooms. Internal steps and low doorways come with the older house. It is a village base, with some traffic noise at busier times.

Hoole

Steam and Stay @ Hoole sleeps five in a Chester suburb, with shops and a pub close by. Its hot tub sits in a small enclosed courtyard rather than a lawn for the dog. This is a town base with limited outdoor space.

Willaston

Rye Croft in Willaston on the Wirral sleeps sixteen with an enclosed garden. Some upper-floor beds are pull-outs in partitioned rooms. Check adult sleeping arrangements, ask whether the garden doors have been repaired and whether heating works. Upstairs can be hot in summer; there is no air conditioning.

Lower Peover

Curlew Cottage sleeps six, with its hot tub on an enclosed front patio. The wider grounds include a pond, alpacas and chickens, so dogs need supervision beyond the patio. It takes one dog; a second may be accepted by prior arrangement.

High Legh

The Granary sleeps ten on a country lane, 2.9 miles from Tatton Park. The owners' dogs roam the grounds; a stream and rear land marked only by signs also need care. Its hot tub and decking curfew is listed as both 9pm and 9.30pm; ask which applies.

Hassall

The House at School Farm sleeps fourteen, with a six-seat hot tub, lawn and garden gazebo. Public footpaths lead into the countryside from the site. The lawn has no confirmed secure boundary, and a separate events venue shares the site, so other activity is possible.

Delamere

At Fishpool Park you book a three-bedroom Cedar Lodge for six, not a specific lodge; yours may differ from the photos. Check that its decking gate closes securely. Steps lead inside, while building work, strimming and water interruptions may affect this developing park. Ask about current works.

Wildboarclough

The Bothy sleeps twelve with an enclosed garden beside fields with sheep. A walk-through bedroom and two staircases affect room choice. Ask about damp and heating before booking; pump noise can affect one bedroom. Poor phone signal makes advance arrival directions useful.

Dog & hot tub questions

What arrival days and minimum stays apply?

Mickle Trafford Manor takes only Friday-to-Friday, seven-night bookings in school holidays and at Christmas. Otherwise it accepts Monday arrivals for four or seven nights, or Friday arrivals for three or seven. Cedar Lodge's arrivals and departures are Mondays or Fridays. The Granary excludes Sunday arrivals, and School Farm requires at least three nights at Christmas and New Year.

Are there pet supplements or housekeeping bonds?

The Granary charges 50 pounds per dog per week. Curlew Cottage lists a 20-pound supplement for an agreed second dog without specifying how often it applies. Good Housekeeping bonds also apply. The Granary lists conflicting amounts of 550 and 750 pounds, so ask which is current. The other listings do not state a pet fee; ask when you book.

Which houses accept hen, stag or celebration groups?

Mickle Trafford Manor, The Granary and Cedar Lodge do not accept hen, stag or similar parties. Curlew Cottage bans parties. The Bothy requires prior owner consent for hen, stag or similar groups. School Farm and Rye Croft host celebration groups, but confirm your plans and dog arrangements with the provider before booking.
