Walking with dogs
Coastal nesting areas and forest routes
Druridge Bay beach welcomes dogs all year. Near Beadnell, Long Nanny's fenced nesting area is off limits during the peak breeding season. Use the signed beach bypass with a lead shorter than one metre.
Pick the one-mile green forest loop for a shorter outing, or the four-mile red walk up to Simonside Crags. Dogs are allowed; use a lead if recall is unreliable, and follow local signs.
The full Lakeside Way is 26 miles and shared with cyclists and horse riders, so choose a section and plan your return. In quiet forest areas, dogs can be off lead if they stay in sight and return when called. Use leads near livestock and busy visitor areas.
Choosing a base
Beadnell's group house and the inland stays
Beadnell has the largest house on this page. Inland, choose between cottages in towns and villages or lodges on shared parks.
Beadnell
On The Watersedge sleeps fourteen and has an enclosed lawn by the coast. Allow 300 pounds extra for the hot tub, which will not reach full temperature on the first night.
Wooler
Cheviot Hills sleeps eight in Wooler, a town base for the Cheviots. Plan for toilet walks: the house has a roof terrace and no ground-level garden.
Glanton
Grange Cottages has two bedrooms for four people and room for three dogs. The enclosed garden and hot tub are separate from the cottage, across a shared driveway.
Felmoor Park, near Felton
Welcome Hjem Log Cabin and Little Bears Hideaway each sleep six and take two dogs. Little Bears has a private rear lawn as well as a veranda; check whether the lawn is enclosed. Its hot tub costs 100 pounds extra.
Bockenfield, near West Thirston
Dreams & Streams and Number 43 Burnside Lodge sleep four and take two dogs each. Dreams & Streams has a veranda and separate private hot-tub patio; Number 43 has its hot tub on the decking.
Otterburn
Treetops and Broken-Sky Lodge stand in shared woodland grounds, with private decks back at the lodges. Keep dogs supervised around the estate's unfenced lake.
West Woodburn
Crag View sleeps four beside the A68 in West Woodburn, so expect passing traffic. Keep your dog on a lead when leaving the front entrance.
Stannersburn, near Falstone
Fox View Cottage offers room for eight people and one dog near Kielder. Its hot-tub patio is private; check the boundaries if you need enclosed outdoor space.
