A hill walk or a shorter outing
Dogs can join you on the footpaths and inside the Carding Mill Valley tea room. Keep them under close control, ideally on a lead. The National Trust asks for leads from March to July to protect lambs and nesting birds, and short leads around sheep.
A 650-metre all-ability trail starts at the main nature reserve car park, offering a shorter option than the steep, rocky ridge paths. Dogs need leads throughout the reserve. Keep clear of livestock and be prepared for changing weather on the hills.
Dogs are allowed at this woodland reserve near Wellington. From the entrance opposite the Buckatree Hotel, a gentle slope leads towards the quarries. Beyond that, paths become steep and undulating, with muddy stretches in the woods.

Pods on the border, barns and town cottages
Start with the kind of outdoor space your dog needs, then compare the sleeping arrangements. The smaller stays include studios and ladder-access beds; the largest houses can spread bedrooms across several floors or a separate building.
White Grit and Stiperstones village
Stiperstones and Corndon each sleep two people and welcome two dogs, with their own enclosed gardens and hot tubs. Callow sleeps four but takes one dog, kept downstairs. Its mezzanine beds have ladder-style access, children must be at least eight, and Sunday arrivals are unavailable. In Stiperstones village, The Hayloft is for two, with a courtyard; The Old Chapel sleeps six, with a steep approach and steps to its terraced garden.
Clun, Bishop's Castle and Chapel Lawn
The Boundary Annex has an enclosed garden; its four-person capacity includes a sofa bed. At Little Bicton and Bicton Lea near Clun, dogs need supervision around livestock: Little Bicton has garden gaps, and Bicton Lea opens onto a sheep field. Neither takes Sunday arrivals. Lower Hodre at Chapel Lawn sleeps nine and has a utility room for wet dogs, but dogs must stay downstairs and on leads outside.
Clee Hill and Bedlam near Ludlow
Clandyke Cottage offers two bedrooms and an enclosed lawn. Shepherds Cabin at Titterstone takes one dog and is for couples, with a mezzanine bed reached by ladder; Sunday arrivals are unavailable. Stoney-Brook and Hillside lodges each sleep four; their hot tubs can take up to 24 hours to heat after refilling. Neither garden is escape-proof: supervise dogs near Stoney-Brook's brook and the sheep field beside Hillside.
Church Stretton and Westhope
At Westhope, five barns and The Old Farmhouse have their own hot tubs and share a games room and gym. Dogs need leads outside because of livestock. Trooper's Barn, The Milking Parlour and The Wain House require a signed hot-tub disclaimer. The Old Farmhouse's seventh bedroom is in the separate Donkey Shed. Near Church Stretton, Old Hall Barn 1 has a low garden boundary and a fenced stream; Old Hall Barn 4 has shared grounds around its screened private hot tub.
The northwest border
At Bronygarth, Pentre Hall has an enclosed lawn, wood-fired hot tub and steep upper stairs. Dogs stay downstairs, and livestock may be nearby. Its minimum stay is three nights, or five at Christmas and New Year. Llanyblodwel's Coach House takes one dog, with Monday or Friday arrivals; supervise its garden's escape corner and bring hot tub towels. 1 Clarkes Lane in St Martins has an enclosed front garden and games room; owners live on site. Tanat House at Nantmawr sleeps fourteen across three floors.
Hookagate near Shrewsbury
Cherry Pod at Hookagate has an enclosed paddock, but its wood-fired hot tub requires an extra package: choose it heated for arrival or ready to light. Wet-weather parking is away from the pod.
Whitchurch and nearby Coton
The Nook is a four-person town stay with shops nearby; its private hot tub costs an extra 35 pounds per stay. The outdoor space is gravel and paving, and the owners live above. The Oak Hut at Coton sleeps two and takes one dog. It has lawn and patio space, but supervise your dog around the pond and expect occasional visits from the farm dogs.
Eastern stays: Bridgnorth and Meeson
31 Riverside has a hot tub in a cave behind its courtyard. Dogs stay downstairs; the stairs to the upper bedrooms are steep. Thimble Cottage at Meeson sleeps four, with limited headroom under the sloping upstairs ceiling. Its low fence adjoins the owner's space and a horse paddock, so consider whether nearby activity will suit a reactive dog.
