Dales, towns and farm stays
Dog-friendly cottages with hot tubs in Derbyshire
Derbyshire stays range from a lodge or cottage for two near South Wingfield to a farmhouse for eighteen. For a town base, compare the two Shenton stays in Buxton; for a rural stay, check the farm settings. Match your dog's needs to the boundary and indoor rules before choosing dates.

Routes for different stays
Cromford suits the Matlock Bath and Tansley side of Derbyshire. The canal towpath runs just over five miles from Cromford Wharf to Ambergate. The shorter stretch to High Peak Junction is suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs; beyond it, sections become narrow and uneven. Keep your dog close beside the water and leave room for wildlife.
For a short outing at Shipley, try the one-mile trim track near the visitor centre at Cinderhill. Longer options use the park's 20 miles of footpaths and bridleways, including the Nutbrook Trail. Pick up a walk leaflet at the visitor centre to choose how far you want to go.
Calke is an option for southern stays around Melbourne. From Calke Explore, the Tramway Trail has a 3.7-mile shorter route and a 6.3-mile full circuit, on relatively flat woodland paths and country lanes shared with cyclists. Use leads around livestock and roads, and short leads in the gardens and stableyards.
Around the county
Find your part of Derbyshire
These bases range from Buxton and the northern villages to Melbourne in the south. Pick the outdoor space and house layout that work for your dog, then compare the individual cottages.
Buxton
Shenton Terrace gives two dogs an enclosed rear patio and deck, with a welcome pack available on request. Its steep, narrow stairs run across three floors. Nearby Shenton Cottage also takes two dogs, but its low garden walls need closer supervision. Choose between them on layout and boundaries.
Oakerthorpe
Woodland Lodge, Bluebell Cottage and Orchard View share a site, each with its own hot tub. Bluebell and Orchard have private enclosed patios alongside shared lawn space. Railway noise can carry outside. Bluebell accepts one medium dog; Orchard takes two medium dogs, so check size as well as number.
Eyam and Millthorpe
With two dogs, Lydgate Cottage in Eyam offers a covered hot tub and enclosed patio, but a long parked car can stop the gate closing. At The Loft in Millthorpe, the bedrooms interconnect and the staircase opens straight into the living area. Its open courtyard needs supervision, especially around resident dogs.
Gratton to Middleton
At Dale End Farm, The Old Cowsheds takes two small or medium dogs; the cottage takes one. Hot tub fees are paid directly to the owner at both. The Farmhouse at Middleton near Youlgreave has no stated dog limit. Its grounds are not fully enclosed, with livestock in surrounding fields.
Matlock Bath and Tansley
Kirkham House in Matlock Bath has a courtyard and terrace on a steep hillside, with an outside entrance to its studio bedroom. Barncroft at Tansley offers a larger bungalow stay for up to three dogs. Neither gives you a confirmed enclosed garden; Barncroft also has an enclosed pond.
Eckington and Wigley
Courthouse Cottage in Eckington has an enclosed lawn, a gazebo and a hot tub; a neighbouring dog may bark. Highview Stables in Wigley has a hot tub on its front deck. Both accept one dog. Highview's patio is enclosed, but its wider garden may not hold a small dog; owners' dogs are on site.
Duffield
Farnah House Barn gives four people two bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and a boot room for the return from a muddy walk. It accepts one dog, but the garden has gaps and access around the side. Treat it as supervised outside space rather than a place to leave your dog loose.
Melbourne
New Elms Farmhouse has an enclosed rear lawn for two dogs, with horses in adjoining grounds and several changes of level inside and out. Park View Lodge is a compact, single-storey alternative for one dog. Sheep graze opposite, so neither setting removes the need to watch a livestock-interested dog.
Dog & hot tub questions
Are dog and hot-tub fees included?
The Old Cowsheds charges 150 pounds for its hot tub and 10 pounds per dog per day, paid in cash on arrival. Dale End Farm Cottage charges 100 pounds for the hot tub, also in cash on arrival, plus 10 pounds per night for the dog. 3 Sunnyside Terrace lists 25 pounds per dog without saying whether that is per night or per stay. At Stensonhill Lodge, confirm whether the hot tub needs requesting and whether an extra fee applies to your dates. These charges are separate from accommodation.
Do any cottages restrict where dogs can go?
Some houses limit dogs indoors. At The Old Robin Hood, dogs are allowed only in the kitchen and games room. Cherry Tree Cottage keeps dogs downstairs and off the furniture. Courthouse Cottage does not allow dogs on furniture or beds. Stensonhill Lodge has a different restriction outdoors: dogs must remain on leads at all times on the working farm. Check those arrangements against where your dog normally settles.
How are the beds arranged for groups?
Cherry Tree Cottage's four places are for two adults and two children aged 16 or under. Cheshire View is advertised for eight, but its listed beds add up to seven, so confirm the eighth place. The Loft has bathroom access through bedrooms, and Kirkham House's studio has an outside entrance and a ladder-accessed upper bed. These details matter if your group needs separate rooms, easy night-time bathroom access or beds without ladders.
Can I choose any arrival day or stay length?
No. New Elms Farmhouse takes Friday-Monday three-night breaks, Monday-Friday four-night breaks, or weeks from either day. Lydgate and Cherry Tree Cottage allow Monday or Friday arrivals. Highview Stables requires at least three nights, with weeks starting Friday. Mill Farm - The Farmhouse and Stensonhill prohibit Sunday arrivals. The Old Robin Hood has a seven-night maximum, with full weeks required during summer school holidays, Christmas and New Year. Stensonhill's hot tub may need 24 hours after a same-day changeover.
